Home sales in the city of Chicago rose slightly in June compared with last year, the first year-over-year increase in 2014.

Sales were down for the Chicago metropolitan area, but by a far smaller percentage than in previous months this year, according to data released this morning by the Illinois Association of Realtors.

In the city, 2,761 homes sold in June, up 1.2 percent from 2,729 sold in June 2013. Median prices were up almost 9 percent over June 2013.

“Demand continues to outpace home supply, and buyers are finding the home they want in a shorter amount of time,” Matt Farrell, president of the Chicago Association of Realtors and managing partner of Urban Real Estate, said in a statement.
